Gayatri Vantillu is an e- extension of my home where I respect each and every visitor, - big & small, younger & older . I express it through addressing my visitors with a traditional suffix of "Garu" / "Ji" or a prefix of Shri / Smt . For people who are not from Indian sub-continent, I prefer a pre-fix Mr. / Mrs. / Ms etc. I expect and insist for a similar reciprocal gesture from all my visitors.

I choose to ignore comments which do not adhere to the above two conditions.

I live in California with my son since 2009.Presently I am staying with my grand daughter (my first daughter ;s second daughter doing Phd in University of Texas till 29th October,2016.
In 2010 I purchased six iron tawa (Adaikal a heavy one concave shape)and gave to each of my four daughters living in India. They are all using it.I brought two pieces one for my daughter in law( a North Indian girl) and another tamilian lady living in USA for over 50 years. My daughter in law said that the iron tawa is very heavy and consumes more oil while preparing Dosa and avoid using the tawa.Tamilian lady also gave similar reason and not using it.Both prefer 'Non Stick' tawas.
Recently I purchased in India another iron tawa of lesser weight with handle. It is not cast Iron but regular iron which is used in Tamilnadu.Often the tawa gets heated and Dosa sticks to the Tawa.I have seen my wife/mother pouring oil and salt and then rub the tawa or use half potato/onion and scrub the surface.
Such methods are not effective in my case.Am I to discard the tawa or use it only for preparation of Chapathi.I seek your advice.
Thanking you in advance,
Krishnamurthy Balasubramanian.
